Why Blackpool homeowners replace a cold glass roof

This Thornton-Cleveleys conservatory had an ageing glazed roof that offered little insulation and made the room feel separate from the rest of the home. We removed the original roof, checked the supporting frames and installed a lightweight tiled system with full insulation. To discuss a similar project, call 01253 462351.
Inside, the new ceiling was boarded and smoothly plastered to create a cleaner, more permanent finish. We can also fit new windows and doors or incorporate the work into a larger home extension.

Why homeowners change the roof

A room you can use in all four seasons

Usable all year

No longer an oven in July and a fridge in January.

Lower heating bills

You stop paying to heat a room that loses its warmth through the roof.

No more condensation

An insulated, plastered ceiling removes the cold surface it forms on.

Quiet in heavy rain

No drumming on polycarbonate when the weather comes in off the sea.

Reads as part of the house

A proper room with a plastered ceiling, not a glazed lean-to.

Common questions

Conservatory roof questions from Blackpool homeowners

If yours is not here, ring Kevin on 01253 462351 or email fourseasonslancs@gmail.com.
Most Blackpool and Fylde conservatory roofs are a two to three day job, because the frames and base stay in place. We strip the old roof, build the insulated structure, then plaster and finish the ceiling inside. We put a realistic number of days in the written quote rather than a best case, and being a coastal patch we tell you upfront if the weather could push it.
In most cases a replacement conservatory roof does not need planning permission from Blackpool, Wyre or Fylde council, but it does need to meet building regulations for structure and insulation. We deal with those councils regularly and tell you at the survey if your job is an exception.
Usually yes. Metrotile weighs up to a seventh of equivalent traditional materials, so the load on your frames and base is far lower than people expect. That light weight and the interlocking fix also suit exposed Blackpool and Cleveleys seafront plots, where wind uplift matters. We check the frames, base and wall plate before quoting, and if anything needs strengthening it goes in the quote rather than being found on the day.
Not if it is designed properly. Velux windows, a roof lantern or glazed panels set into the solid roof keep the daylight while the insulated sections stop the heat loss. On north facing Fylde gardens we usually push for more glass, and we talk that balance through at the survey.
